With eyes wide open..

An old, silly scribble dated 24 April, 2009. My place. Afternoon time. Abhi on the armchair reading a book. I'm sitting on the study desk.

he...
reads my thoughts.
knows how I feel.
discerns when I need
to be left alone.
knows when to hug,
and how to heal.

he...
in front of my god,
humbly bows his head.
in spite of being a
non believer, with me,
on this path for looking for
miracles, he happily treads.

he...
lets me be crazy.
lets me be insane.
then, when I have had
my share of silliness,
effortlessly guides me back
to the life that’s exquisitely mundane.

he...
gives wings to my wishes
and watches, as I fly them.
prodding me to follow my
dreams, and letting me
believe in who and
what I am.

he...
calms my heart and my senses,
then, also, makes them go wild.
dances with me in the rains,
sings with me, does everyday
things with me with alacrity,
lets me be a woman, and also a child.

he, therefore,
became the calm feeling,
that in my heart, merrily lies.
the smile on my lips,
the spring in my steps,
the hope in my soul,
and the life in my eyes.

I watch him reading his book,
as all these thoughts, through
my mind, do race
and I hug myself tight,
and smile a smile he knows so well,
it spreads on my face.

he peers from behind the book
and ask me with humour in his eyes,
“pinched yourself again, did you?”

and I nod, and say sheepishly,
“I can’t help but pinch myself,
even if I tried...
you are like a dream to me,
that everyday I see,
with my eyes open wide.”

Excerpt from an old conversation with Abhi...6 June, 2009

Reminiscing our first date from 2004 :)

You: Would you like to...

Me: Yes, if we can get there in time for the night show. Shall I..

You: No, don't tell the gang. Let's go by ourselves.Remember...

Me: ...Our first date, when we were school kids & couldn't afford to go anywhere on our measly pocket money, so we decided to buy coke & chips and go to the Nyati Terrace, and

You: You wore your white top with jeans and I

Me: Spilled coke on it, and I

You: And you laughed. Most girls would have created a fuss and cried. Then I...

Me: Then you held my hands while we listened to the music of the stars together and I looked..

You: And you looked at me with tears in your shining, beautiful eyes and then I...

Me: And then you told me that I was special and you'll never leave me.

You: Wasn't that a...

Me: A silly, sentimental thing to say? Yes, but I've never forgotten it. Btw look at the time!! If we don't hurry, we'll miss the night show. Do you...

You: Still want to go? No; let's buy some chips & coke and go up on the terrace and...

Me: Yes.
